Building on the first phase, the PURPLE-II Project focuses on youth engagement to foster peace and social cohesion among Somali and Oromia pastoralist communities. Recognizing that youth were historically manipulated into conflict, the project empowers them as agents of change. The initiative moves beyond traditional reconciliation by using cross-border sports. Inter-ethnic sports teams and competitions create a space for genuine connection and trust-building. This approach allows youth to form authentic bonds and rediscover shared cultural values, unlike the often-symbolic nature of formal peace meetings. The project demonstrates that by combining dialogue with sports, youth can become effective ambassadors of a lasting and heartfelt peace.
